First Visit to Our Office

We want your first visit with us to be as pleasant and comfortable as the rest of your orthodontic treatment, which is why we’ll do all we can to prepare you for this appointment. Your first visit with us will consist of complementary diagnostic records and a thorough orthodontic examination, followed by a discussion of potential treatment options, which include our Erie and Louisville Teen Invisalign® treatment, Invisalign® aligners, and traditional braces. We’ll address all of your (or your child’s) orthodontic needs during this visit. We will inform you of the cost of treatment and our available payment plans, and schedule an appointment to begin treatment if you are ready to move forward.

Preparing for Your Visit

Before you visit our Erie or Louisville office, we ask that you please assist us by providing the following information:

  • Any panoramic X-ray that was taken within the past six months
  • A list of any medications that you’re currently taking
  • Completed patient registration forms
  • Your insurance card, if you have orthodontic insurance

Please let us know beforehand if you have any medical conditions (such as high blood pressure, diabetes, artificial heart valves and joints, or rheumatic fever).

Successive Visits

During your orthodontic treatment, you’ll need to continue to visit us. Typically, we’ll need to see you every six to eight weeks to check on your progress and make any needed changes or adjustments to your orthodontics. These visits will be important to help ensure the success of your treatment.

You’ll also need to follow any instructions that are given by Dr. Caraway. These can include:

  • How to take care of your braces/appliances
  • How to wear your elastics
  • Keeping up with orthodontic appointments
  • Visiting your dentist regularly

Treatment Time

The needed treatment time will vary depending on the patient, though most will last somewhere between six and 30 months. Some factors that will affect the treatment time include:

  • The severity of the problem
  • The degree of possible movement
  • Patient cooperation

Dental Care

Before your orthodontic treatment will begin, it’s important that you visit your dentist to ensure that all of your cavities and any other oral health concerns have been taken care of. In some cases, it may even be necessary for certain teeth to be removed in order to correct your bite. Dr. Caraway will work closely with either your dentist or an oral surgeon to arrange this if necessary.
